Our Treatment Approach
As you begin your care, there are usually many questions you may have concerning your treatment. We use many proven techniques to achieve fast results. Our method involves three main components: Education, Manual (Hands-On) Treatment and Therapeutic Exercise.
Education
First and foremost, our job is to teach you about the nature of your problem. Pain and the limitations it can cause can be very frustrating and confusing. We will attempt to identify the cause of your pain, explain your treatment options and help you to set recovery goals. Healthful lifestyle and nutritional recommendations are routinely provided as well.
Manual Treatment
There are a number of manual techniques we use to ease your symptoms and speed your recovery. We have developed expertise in many different types of techniques so that we may better match the treatment to meet your specific needs: The combination of these approaches allows us to customize treatment plans for superior results.
Adjustment / Manipulation this is the technique most associated with chiropractic treatment. The goal of the procedure is to remove painful movement restriction quickly and safely. During these procedures you are positioned comfortably and the doctor will then carefully apply a specific maneuver to the affected spinal area.
Flexion Distraction Manipulation we use a special type of treatment table to apply gentle and specific traction to the spinal vertebrae. This treatment option is especially helpful to mobilize stiff spinal areas when other techniques are not possible. We use Flexion Distraction Manipulation to ease pressure on irritated spinal nerves in patients with spinal disc problems causing nerve pain.
Joint Mobilization certain body regions respond very well to mobilization. This involves placing a joint or body region through a series of gradual movements in order to improve range of motion. Joint mobilization is frequently used in patients with shoulder, hip and knee problems.
Myofascial (my-o-fash-ul) Release painful restrictions in the muscles and connective tissues of the body are a major source of irritation and limitation during common activities and in sports. Combining chiropractic with muscle system treatment, in our clinical experience, provides superior results. We frequently use a wide range of myofascial techniques.
NeuroMuscular Techniques while some muscles may become overly tight and painful, others may be weak and unable to hold your body in its proper alignment. We use functional movement testing to identify imbalances. We then apply NeuroMuscular techniques to activate weak muscles and to improve muscle balance throughout the body.
Therapeutic Exercise
Recent studies have clearly identified the benefit of combining chiropractic treatment with exercise. As you recover, we will likely prescribe various exercises that will help you to improve flexibility, body alignment and posture, stability and strength. It has long been our practice philosophy to help you to maintain your health and activity level through simple, scientifically based and effective exercises.
